We'll get in touch soon.
PLEASE NOTE! WE ARE CURRENTLY ESPECIALLY IN NEED OF GUITARISTS, TENOR & BARITONE SAXOPHONE PLAYERS, TROMBONISTS AND BASS PLAYERS. OTHER INSTRUMENTS ARE WELL SUBSCRIBED BUT PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM SO WE CAN KEEP YOU ON FILE FOR A SLOT AT THE EARLIEST AVAILABLE SESSION.
When is it? The workshop happens on a Sunday once a month (except August and December). The exact date of the workshop is confirmed a few weeks prior to the workshop and is communicated when we contact you to offer a space.
Where does it take place? The workshop is held in Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. 47, Frith Street. W1D 4HT. Closest tube: Leicester Square, Tottenham Court Road and Piccadilly Circus. Nearest car park: Chinatown Car Park even though there’s a possibility of parking near the venue.
Who can attend? We welcome 12 to 17 years old students but have made exceptions in the past for student as young as 10 and as old as 19 if they meet the grade requirement.
Do the participants have to be grade 5? We require a grade 5 minimum level as the pieces are quite challenging. Students must read music and have basic knowledge of music theory. If your child hasn’t reached this grade yet, we would strongly suggest applying when she/he is ready.
How does the recruitment process work? We will contact you first via email to offer a slot for one of our sessions. If you don’t get back to us, we will then contact you by phone. If your child can’t make the date offered, we will offer alternative date if available. Please make sure you provide correct contact details, both mobile phone number and email address.
Can I stay during the afternoon practice? The evening performance? Parents and family are welcome to stay during the afternoon rehearsal. For the “big band in a day” performance, each participant is allowed to have two guests maximum. If you wish to stay for the entire evening, you will have to purchase tickets.
I would like to bring my school? At the moment, we do not welcome schools as the aim of the workshop is to mix children that have never met before and challenge them to play as a big band in the course of one day. We are thinking about bringing the concept to schools in and around London, if you think you have the required players, feel free to drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get in touch if the idea moves forward.
What is a Jazz Big Band composed of? It is composed of 2 alto sax, 2 tenor sax, 1 baritone sax, 3-4 trombones, 3-4 trumpets, 1 guitar, 1 bass, 1 piano, 1 drums. Please note this is a strictly instrumental workshop, we do not have singers.
Does the workshop only happen in Ronnie Scott’s? No, we have been invited to festivals such as The EFG London Jazz Festival at the Barbican, Camp Bestival 2017 edition and Deal Festival. Please keep an eye on the website for any new opportunity.
If you have any other questions, you can email ; we'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks
